This project was born in 2001, when the group of Russian biologists and naturalists, for whom biological photography is a part of their professional work, decided to join efforts and scan their photo archives.
We started from our more than 6000 slides, that are in systematic
catalog now. We give full taxonomy for all mammals, birds, reptiles,
amphibians and vascular plants of Russia – from the kingdom
to species.
The overwhelming majority of objects is identified, i.e. we know
what is shown on our pictures and they have scientific and Russian
names. Moreover, we have information who made these shots, when and
where, and who identified the creature.
In most cases our library of stock images represents the nature of
Russia, and lesser part – nature of Republics of the former
USSR. In future we are going to spread the geography of our library.
The images on this website were made from high resolution scans
(4000 dpi/24bit) of our negatives or slides, or, over the last
years, by professional
digital camera.
The members of our team have an experience in the educational literature
and periodicals, besides scientific publications. So, we are
ready to render professional accompanying text for images right
up to
articles.
